A Day in Huilloc Community
Our travel partners in Peru provide ongoing community service to help this legendary community to continue sustaining itself through agriculture, textiles, and ?Turismo Vivencial?, Experiential Tourism
We were greeted and invited inside their community,
We drank herbal tea and dressed in their clothes.
The colors and hats are indicators of the person being single and looking or married, etc.,
Then we went in route to start the offerings to mother earth, Peru?s oldest and most sacred ritual,
We learned and participated.
The most respected of the group or shamans, are the designated ones to introduce the offers inside the land after prayers, adding also their alcoholic beverages,
It was a beautiful celebration where all of us hugged and thanked the Pachamama for its fruits that helped them survive.
They shared with us their methods of agriculture, the entire family working, including kids; they showed us how they pull ripe potatoes; later on, we returned to their village to see and purchase their crafts; what a great feeling buying one kind, handmade and knowing we are helping with their needs, we danced and to enjoy a delicious farm to table lunch.
At first, I was skeptical about being something too ?touristy? or staged, but my experience was enlightening; I felt the spirituality of their ritual, the presence of gratitude and love for the land, the respect for the elders, and seeing that those traditions are being transferred to their little ones, was priceless. As a native Peruvian, my heart was full, seeing the priceless smiles of both my clients and the Huillocs.
The landscape was also an excellent backdrop for a beautiful day to show gratitude and appreciation.
Our programs to Peru will include this visit.
